About Reclaim The Web

One day of open conversations and presentations on using social media for activism and social change.

“I would recommend any activist who uses the internet to attend one of ‘Reclaim The Web’ events run by the Web Activist Collective.”

Graham, Amnesty UK activist

Open Spaces

Reclaim The Web uses Open Space Technology.

The Law of Two Feet: If you're not getting anything from, or contributing anything to, a discussion, you are free to get up and go somewhere else!

  • Whoever comes are the right people
  • Whatever happens is the only thing that could have
  • Whenever it starts is the right time
  • When it's over, it's over

We think one hundred people sitting down listening to one person talk is a bad way to have an interesting conversation. Everybody has something to contribute, and everybody has something to learn.

At the last two Reclaim The Web events, people suggested topics and formed into small groups to talk about what they find interesting. Some people moved between conversations because they like sharing ideas between groups. Others stayed still and fully explored the potential of various web technologies for activism.

It was especially cool seeing people from the techy and activist scenes meeting each other, as they had a lot in common, and lots of different perspectives to share.
